Magnetic phase diagram of K2Cr8O16 clarified by high-pressure muon spin spectroscopy

Abstract: The K2Cr8O16 compound belongs to a series of quasi-1D compounds with intriguing magnetic properties that are stabilized through a high-pressure synthesis technique. In this study, a muon spin rotation, relaxation and resonance (μ+SR) technique is used to investigate the pressure dependent magnetic properties up to 25 kbar. μ+SR allows for measurements in true zero applied field and hereby access the true intrinsic material properties. As a result, a refined temperature/pressure phase diagram is presented revea… Show more

“…This would also reduce the number of the muons stopped in the sample. Since recent high-pressure μ + SR measurements on K 2 Cr 8 O 16 using the same setup as this work also show a similar decrease in A TF /A 0 with pressure [27], such decrease is most unlikely caused by an intrinsic change in the BaVS 3 sample.…”

“…A Janis 4 He flow cryostat and a Quantum 4 He cryostat with a 3 He insert were used to reach temperatures as low as 2 K and 0.25 K, respectively. The experimental techniques are described in more detail elsewhere [19,20,26,27]. The obtained μ + SR data was analyzed with the MUSRFIT software suite [28].…”

“…[142] Because of the intrinsic nuclear magnetic moment of lithium, spin flips of muons take place under the influence of the transport of lithium ions. [143] The positrons produced due to the decay of muons are emitted in the muon spin direction. The evolution of the muon spin can be monitored by collecting the positrons emitted and analysing the decay asymmetry of positions as a function of time.…”
