Magnetic Particle Filled Elastomeric Hybrid Composites and Their Magnetorheological Response

Abstract: The magnetorheological (MR) elastomer as a hard and soft hybrid functional material, a composite material consisting of magnetic hard particles embedded in elastomeric soft matrix, is a branch of MR materials that are functional smart materials rapidly responding to external magnetic fields. These tunable properties of MR elastomers facilitate a variety of applications. In this brief review paper, in addition to general information on the MR elastomers, recent research not only on a wide variety of MR elastome… Show more

“…Both G ′ and G ″ maintained plateau at the strain region up to 63%; within the range of 1–63% strain viscoelastic region is independent of the shear percentage. [ 29–31 ] CaproGlu moduli begin to decrease dramatically as the G ′ drops for an order of magnitude within the region of 63–137% strain. Linear viscoelasticity should closely match the tissue substrates.…”

“…In a 2.0 kV/mm electric field, the value reached 250%, and the value exceeded 1100%. High values of electrorheological sensitivity for the ERE-5 sample indicate the high mobility of macromolecules in its structure and a significant range of changes in its elasto-plastic properties when an electric field was applied, comparable with the control range of magnetorheological elastomers [ 47 ]. It should be noted that the high electrorheological sensitivity of the ERE-5 sample, in comparison with the ERE-0 sample, is consistent with significantly higher values of the dielectric characteristics of the ERE-5 sample (see below)–the permittivity difference ε 0 – ε ∞ , higher tg δ values at the point of relaxation maximum and slower relaxation processes during polarization, which, according to general theories about the electrorheological sensitivity of electrorheological fluids, should contribute to a pronounced electrorheological effect.…”
