“…These magnetizations are smaller than that (=84 emu/g) 40 of bulk Fe 3 O 4 because M-H curves were not fully saturated. An unsaturated M-H curve similar to ours was also observed for the spinel iron oxide nanoparticles with a mean particle diameter of 2.06 nm at room temperature by Yaacob et al 41 They attributed this to a magnetically anomalous surface layer.…”

“…In the case of the iron oxide nanoparticles, the observed magnetizations at H = 5 T are much smaller than the bulk saturation magnetizations of Fe 3 O 4 (84 emu/g) and γ-Fe 2 O 3 (74 emu/g). [22] We attribute this to the ultra small size of the iron oxide nanoparticles in which the surface Fe ion spins are deteriorated by the ligands, as also observed by Yaacob et al [23] To test the possibility of using the ligand-coated ultra small metal oxide nanoparticles as MRI contrast agents, the longitudinal r 1 and the transverse r 2 relaxivities and the longitudinal T 1 and the transverse T 2 map images were measured. The obtained r 1 and r 2 relaxivities are plotted in Figure 1 to highlight the difference in magnitude between the ligand-coated ultra small iron oxide, manganese oxide, and gadolinium oxide nanoparticles and are also provided in Table 1.…”

“…133 Ions (as FeCl 2 ) have been sequestered within mixed anionic/cationic micellar vesicles composed of CTAB and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid. Excess extravesicular ions are removed through ion exchange chromatography.…”
