Magnetic Nanoparticles Encapsulated Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks: A New Delivery System for Crocin

Hani Nasser Abdelhamid,
Dina H. Kassem,
Rania M. Hathout

Abstract: The synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles enclosed in zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (MNPs@ZIF-8) was successful carried out at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. The synthesis procedure was selected because it is uncomplicated and does not call for the use of any sophisticated pieces of apparatus throughout its execution. The Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images were investigated to characterize the materials. The analysis of … Show more

“…These pores can be used to trap pharmaceuticals, biomolecules, or other guest molecules, making MOFs a versatile material for drug delivery, imaging, and other biological applications. 16,17 MOFs can be used for encapsulating drugs and delivering them to specific targets in the body with high efficacy and low negative side effects. 18 MOFs can be designed to target cancer cells or other diseased organs.…”

“…ZIF-8, the most representative zeolitic imidazolate framework, has a sodalite zeolite-type topology consisting of Zn 2+ ions as secondary building units and 2-methylimidazole as a linker . Recently, ZIF-8 and its composites with other functional materials have been extensively used in various biomedical applications, especially in the drug delivery process, because of their dissolution in acidic or neutral media. …”
