Magnetic nanoparticles coated with cyclodextrins and citrate for irinotecan delivery

Abstract: In the present work, we study the role of different components in the formation of more stable iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs): β-cyclodextrin (BCD), 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP) and citrate anion. MNPs formulations were characterized by FTIR, particles size measurements, zeta potential based on dynamic light scattering principle technique, X-ray powder pattern diffraction, XPS spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that cyclodextrins a… Show more

“…Several natural polymers like starch, cellulose, chitosan, cyclodextrin, alginate and Carrageenan have been used as protective shell for the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles with considerable stability and controlled size. Also, a protective shell can be used for modification with specific ingredients, such as different drugs, particular binding sites, catalytic active components, or other functional groups.…”

“…Because we know that zeta potential higher than 30 mV both positive and negative prevent aggregation, just citrate‐IONPs and citrate‐β‐cyclodextrin‐IONPs were creating stable ferrofluid. So by proper modification we can influence IONPs properties and gain IONPs specifically designed for our aims . Although cytostatic drugs are the most bounded therapeutic agents intended for delivery via blood vessels into tumorous tissue the other anticancer agents are also appropriate for targeted delivery using magnetic carriers.…”

“…Cyclodextrins (CDs), an essential type of macrocyclic host molecules in supramolecular chemistry, are able to encapsulate many guest molecules and act as a “supramolecular anchor” in many supramolecular assemblies preparation, such as nanotubes, nanosponges, nanomicelles, nanovesicles, etc . In addition, it is worth mentioning that CDs exhibit high affinity to magnetic ferric oxide NPs, bringing them excellent stability and monodispersity . Therefore, a combination of CDs and Fe 3 O 4 NPs offers a potential platform to fabricate more functional nanocomposites.…”
