Magnetic Field Effect on the Electrochemical Behavior of Hemoglobin

Abstract: The magnetic field effect on the electrochemical behavior of hemoglobin at the silver electrode was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. When a 0.4 T magnetic field was applied to the cell containing 1×10−6 M hemoglobin (pH 5.0), both anodic and cathodic peak currents increased observably at 10 mV/s due to the MHD convection. In addition, the influence of scan rate, adding promotor, increasing homoglobin concentration and removing oxygen on the peak currents under the magnetic field were investigated and analyz… Show more

“…As for the mechanism of magnetic field effect on the acceleration of self-assembly process, it may be due to the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effect [14,15,17,19] and the orientation function of magnetic field on molecules [21,22]. Considering the MHD effect, it will lead to an increase of the limiting current density and improve the mass transport rate of electrochemical reactions owing to magnetically stimulated convection [14,15,17].…”

“…As an important protein participating in oxygen transfer within the vertebrate, hemoglobin has been extensively investigated by electrochemical techniques due to its redox heme group [9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16]. In order to promote the electrochemical response of hemoglobin, the silver electrodes modified by cysteine [17] and lipoic acid [18] monolayers have been utilized.…”
