Magnetic expansion read-out of MSR disk with double in-plane magnetic layers

Abstract: The magnetic domain expansion disk with double in-plane layers was prepared and its magnetic domain expansion read-out characteristics were measured. The fiim mainly consists of GdFeCo read-out layer, GdFeCo intermediate layer and TbFeCo memory layer, Given a difference in content of the GdFeCo readout and intermediate layers, it is clearly observed that there exists a threshold read-out laser power. When 0.6 1 1 m continuous domains were recorded on the magnetic expansion disk, the read-out signal level becam… Show more

“…As with MSR the readout and intermediate layers are typically GdFeCo, whilst the storage layer is commonly TbFeCo. This amplifying process becomes essential for the readout of very small magnetic domains (length smaller than 0.1 lm), like the ones created by the laser-pumped magnetic field modulation (LP-MFM) technique [5]. During playback, the storage and readout layers are heated using a laser beam.…”

“…On the other hand, the conventional MAMMOS readout requires AC magnetic field for expanding and erasing the magnetic domain in the GdFeCo readout layer. For simplicity of the readout system, some other types of AC field-free MAMMOS have been reported: One does not need any magnetic field [4], and the other needs only DC field [5]. In this paper, a new type of DC field MAMMOS (DC-MAMMOS) was proposed and evaluated with using RE-rich readout layer.…”

“…In order to realize MAMMOS read-out, application of a magnetic field during read-out is a key factor. According to the classification of irradiating method of the read-out laser beam and application method of the magnetic field, various possible MAMMOS read-out methods are being proposed [6,7,8]. Among these many methods, MAMMOS realized by an alternating magnetic field may have the clearest read-out signal.…”
