Magnetic chitosan functionalized with β‐cyclodextrin as ultrasound‐assisted extraction adsorbents for the removal of methyl orange in wastewater coupled with high‐performance liquid chromatography

Abstract: Three types of choline chloride based deep eutectic solvents were prepared and used to modify magnetic chitosan. The adsorption capacity of the three deep-eutectic-solvent-modified magnetic chitosan/carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin for removing methyl orange from wastewater was examined. The different deep eutectic solvents were used to strengthen the adsorption capacity of magnetic chitosan. Deep-eutectic-solvent-modified magnetic chitosan/carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin materials were characterized by Fourier trans… Show more

“…DESs offer an attractive cost-effective alternative as the substitutes of ionic liquids and organic solvents, since they are simple to synthesize and the majority of them are characterized by their non-toxicity and biodegradability. To date, they have been scarcely used for dye removal [10], and only a few studies have combined DES with polymers to obtain eco-friendly adsorbents [11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…It is very important to develop an environmentally friendly, efficient, low-cost, accurate, and effective adsorbent in the adsorption process. For this reason, the development of processes that use highly accurate, sensitive, innovative, and environmentally friendly adsorbents for the analysis of dyestuff pollution, which adversely affects both the ecosystem and human health through direct contact, remains up-to-date [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20].…”

“…Combinations of chitosan with deep eutectic solvents (DES) offer a seldom-explored possibility to obtain eco-friendly, non-toxic, biodegradable, accessible, and cost-effective materials with interesting structural properties [20,21] and improved adsorption capacities to remove pollutants from wastewaters [16,[22][23][24]. DES are compounds that are obtained by combining pure chemicals, which act as hydrogen bond donors and acceptors for given molar proportions.…”
