“…However, it is noticeable that at higher fluences, there is a significant reduction in the peak intensity owing to the amorphization nature of the implanted thin film. Similar outcomes were detailed by Pawan et al using Co ion implanted ceria thin films [21]. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) values are found to increase with increasing ion fluence up to sample Fe 1E15 and then decrease for higher fluences (Fe 5E15 and Fe 1E16 ) and this may be due to the recrystallization of some grains.…”

“…The enhancement in optical and ferromagnetic properties of N and C ion implanted ceria was earlier reported by Pawan et al [19,20]. Besides that, an investigation on Co ion-implanted ceria thin films was also reported with an emphasis on the electronic structures [21].…”

“…According to the roughness values presented in Table I, it was observed that the CeO 2 thin films exhibited greater roughness than that of TiO 2 , as well as when CeO 2 was in the upper layer. It is expected that the films formed by smaller grains have lower surface roughness [24].…”

“…2, the displacements of the peaks were observed with doping, indicating the introduction of Eu 3+ , Tb 3+ and Tm 3+ ions into CeO 2 lattice. Doping with materials of different valences and ionic radius tend to cause changes in the crystalline lattice that may go unnoticed when analyzed only visually, especially when doping occurs in low concentrations [20]. Table I presents the crystallite sizes obtained by the Scherrer equation; according to the values obtained, the doping with Eu 3+ and Tb 3+ promoted an increase in the size of the crystallite, whereas the doping with Tm 3+ provided a small reduction.…”
