Magnesium (Mg) with a concentration range of 1 to 3 at% was successfully doped in zinc oxide (ZnO) and prepared via a hydrothermal process in powder form. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed a polycrystalline nature of the prepared powders. Images taken by a scanning electron microscope showed that the synthesized powders had clear solid hexagonal rod structures. Furthermore, the solid hexagonal structures were hollow because of the Mg ions introduced into the ZnO. The photoluminescence emission of the undoped and Mg-doped ZnO showed an enhancement of the ultraviolet emission with the Mg concentrations. Furthermore, the Gaussian fitting reveals that the UV band emission is consist of two emissions. The first peak was at 3.36 eV for the undoped ZnO that shifts to 3.4 eV, 3.43 eV for the 1 at% Mg and 2 at% Mg concentration, respectively. Thereafter the UV peak position reduced to 3.39 eV for the 3 at% Mg ions concentration. The results were studied, and the correlation of the results was attributed to the doping process.

We describe a simple but efficient technique for fabricating heterojunction diodes by simply depositing undoped and Cr-doped CuO thin films on n-Si substrates, and we investigate the electrical properties of diodes for different mixing ratios of chromium oxide and copper oxide. The results show that a change in CrO and CuO concentration significantly affects the electrical properties of Ag/Cu1 − xCrxO/n-Si diodes. The all diodes exhibit rectification behavior, as shown by their dark I-V characteristics. The crucial junction parameters such as series resistance (Rs), rectification ratio (RR), ideality factor (n) and barrier height (ΦB) were calculated by using I-V data. the characteristics of capacitance-voltage (C-V), conductance-voltage (G-V) and series resistance-voltage (Rs-V) were measured in the frequency range of 10 kHz to 1 MHz. The obtained results demonstrate that the electrical properties of the Ag/Cu1 − xCrxO/n-Si diodes are controlled by the different mixing concentration ratios of chromium oxide and copper oxide content.

Un-doped ZnO and Mg-doped ZnO thin films (TFs) are synthesized by evaporation technique. The synthesized un-doped ZnO TFs are exposed to evaporated Mg contents for different times. XRD patterns reveal the development of (100), (002), (101) planes related to ZnO phase. The shifting of diffraction planes and shrinking of lattice parameters confirms the doping of Mg contents into ZnO lattice. The crystallite size of (100), (101) and (002) planes lies in the range from (12.43-14.51 nm), (14.28-19.08 nm) and (14.78- 19.19 nm) respectively. SEM analysis indicates that the formation of nano-fibers and nano-chains of rounded nanoparticles. EDX analysis confirms the presence of Zn, O and Mg whose amount is increased with increasing exposure time. The energy band gap (Eg) of un-doped ZnO (⁓ 3.05 eV) is increased to  3.08,  3.19 and  3.29 eV) with increasing exposure time in Mg contents.
