“…The violation of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality for the correlation functions seems to be the direct proof that we are really dealing with the frequency of events, but not with the probability at the delay time T = 1 ps. The given interpretation is confirmed by that, that at the delay time T = 5 − 6 ps, which is also shorter, than the coherence lifetime of the storage state |1 , evaluated to ≈ 7 ps, the system studied is obeing to the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, that follows from the Figure 3b in [40], indicating, that by the given delay times, the notion of the probability can be used and the analysis of the authors is correct in this case.…”

“…The probability that the write pulse generates more than one phonon is therefore small. "To verify the non-classical nature of the state of the diamond crystal during storage",-the authors of [40] write,-"we evaluate the normalized cross-correlation of the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields, given by g S,AS ≤ g…”

“…Using this back-action evading interaction we performed both state preparation and full state tomography of the mechanical motional state. We have reconstructed mechanical states with a position uncertainty reduced to 19 pm, limited by the quantum fluctuations of the optical pulse, and we have performed 'cooling-by-measurement' to reduce the mechanical mode temperature from an initial 1100 K to 16 K. Future improvements to this technique may allow for quantum squeezing of mechanical motion, even from room temperature, and reconstruction of non-classical states exhibiting negative regions in their phase-space quasi-probability distribution.Experiments are now beginning to investigate nonclassical motion of massive mechanical devices [1][2][3]. This opens up new perspectives for quantum-physics enhanced applications and for tests of the foundations of physics.…”

“…Additionally, a QE-phonon interaction occurs in molecules and solids when the electronic and vibrational degrees of freedom are coupled, leading to inelastic scattering processes. Natural Raman transitions have been used to transfer a photon's quantum state to an optical phonon in diamond [13,14], but the extremely high frequency and large dissipation limit general applications for quantum processing.…”
