Macronutrients and heavy metals contents in the leaves of trees from the devastated lands at Kryvyi Rih District (Central Ukraine)

Abstract: This research was performed at Petrovsky waste rock dump, the Central part of the Kryvyi Rih iron-ore & metallurgical district (Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukraine). The macronutrients (K, Ca, Mg, P and S) and heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd) contents in the leaves of three species of the trees (Ash-leaved maple, Silver Birch and Black locust) that were collected on devastated lands were assessed. It was established that trees which grow on the Petrovsky dump take place under evident shortage of nutrients (… Show more

“…This is one of the largest iron ore mining enterprises in Europe, specializing in iron ore mining (25-3·10 6 t yr -1 ) and production of iron ore concentrate (12-15·10 6 t yr -1 ) and iron ore pellets (7-10·10 6 t yr -1 ). The level of dust emissions from mining operations and from devastated lands (waste rock dumps, tailing ponds and quarry) was defined as 30·10 3 t yr -1 (Gryshko et al 2012, Savosko 2016, Bielyk et al 2020.…”

“…In addition, natural and artificial forests reduce levels of soil and groundwater pollution, prevent the spread of water and wind erosion. When creating artificial woody plantations at Kryvyi Rih area taking into account the levels of soil pollution by heavy metals and their biogeochemical features is very important [2,7,22,24]. anthropogenic assessment factors…”
