Macamide B suppresses lung cancer progression potentially via the ATM signaling pathway

Abstract: Macamides are a class of bioactive natural products obtained from Lepidium meyenii (maca), which have been reported to exert inhibitory activity in cancer. However, their role in lung cancer is currently unknown. In the present study, macamide B was shown to inhibit the proliferation and invasion of lung cancer cells, as determined by Cell Counting Kit-8 and Transwell assays, respectively. By contrast, macamide B induced cell apoptosis, as determined by Annexin V-FITC assay. Moreover, combined treatment with m… Show more

“…Among them, over the past 20 years, there has been a growing interest in and demand for Lepidium meyenii Walp, or maca, due to its health benefits [ 9 ]. Recent studies indicate that maca may improve endurance, help with autism, and have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. Maca’s secondary metabolites provide neuroprotective and cytoprotective benefits [ 14 ] and improve energy metabolism [ 15 ].…”
