MAC-network cross-layer energy optimization model for Wireless Body Area Networks

Abstract: Abstract-In recent years, Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have gained increasing interest in the research community and become an emerging technology, especially in healthcare services. This position paper focuses on the energy optimization issue and the joint routing and MAC protocols in WBANs. We extend upon our previous model on the Energy-Aware Topology Design for WBANs (EAWD), so as to include PHY and MAC-layer WBAN specifications. Indeed, EAWD model considered the topology constraints by minimizing t… Show more

“…The use of latency or time-delay for path optimization was found to be a potential approach. With this motive, in [24] a joint routing and MAC scheduling model was developed for a Wireless Body Network (WBAN). Towards this goal, a cross layer routing concept was designed by amalgamating the MAC and PHY layers.…”

“…For quantitative assessment and performance evaluation of the proposed JSMCRP protocol, we need to consider a reference model which deploys both cross layer structure as well as a joint routing and MAC scheme for WSN. Performing an extensive literature survey over the last few years, we found an approach called Enhanced Energy-Aware Topology Design for Wireless Body Area Networks (EEAWD) [24] that primarily encompassed MAC layer, mobility, and time-synchronization across the OSI layers (say, cross layer). Although this approach was primarily designed to achieve energy-efficiency, the author [24] recommended using a joint routing-MAC concept to achieve better performance in "pseudo-mobility" conditions.…”

“…Lahlou † et.al [14] proposed on the energy optimisation issue and the joint routing and MAC protocols in WBANs. In this paper author present their antecedently style model Energy-Aware Topology style for WBANs (EAWD), its weakness and extend the EAWD as Enhanced EAWD (EEAWD).EAWD is a mathematical framework supported the integer liner programming.…”
