M-Band Wavelets: Application to Texture Segmentation for Real Life Image Analysis

Abstract: This paper describes two examples of real-life applications of texture segmentation using M-band wavelets. In the first part of the paper, an efficient and computationally fast method for segmenting text and graphics part of a document image based on textural cues is presented. It is logical to assume that the graphics part has different textural properties than the non-graphics (text) part. So, this is basically a two-class texture segmentation problem. The second part of the paper describes a segmentation sc… Show more

“…The theorems, relations, and properties suitable for designing M-band filter bank are presented in [26,[29][30][31][32]. For M-band wavelet problem, if the support of the scaling function and wavelets and the respective coefficients is finite and the system is orthogonal or a tight frame, the length of the scaling vector or filter h(n) is a multiple of the multiplier M. Some of the properties are as follows: …”

“…To assure the system embedding efficiency, we need to compensate the harmful interference of these residual components in the decision variable Dk setting an appropriate α value. As we have different residual components for each decision variable Dk, we make the following change in the step of watermark construction (8) to allow the appropriate setting of individual gain factors αj for each reference mark. Generalizing the existence of volumetric distortion sources in the watermarked image path, we define a distortion vector n that changes the elements of the watermarked image vector C W according to (9).…”
