LZIFU: an emission-line fitting toolkit for integral field spectroscopy data

Abstract: We present LZIFU (LaZy-IFU), an IDL toolkit for fitting multiple emission lines simultaneously in integral field spectroscopy (IFS) data. LZIFU is useful for the investigation of the dynamical, physical and chemical properties of gas in galaxies. LZIFU astronomical-observatory Multi-object Integral-field spectrograph (SAMI) Galaxy Survey. Here we describe in detail the structure of the toolkit, and how the line fluxes and flux uncertainties are determined, including the possibility of having multiple distinc… Show more

“…In a first instance, we applied the likelihood ratio test to our data (Eq. 1 in Ho et al 2016), obtaining however mixed results, in some cases in obvious contradiction with reality. We thus decided to select the spectra with double components based on visual inspection.…”

“…The statistical significance of decomposition in spectral fitting has been extensively discussed in the literature (e.g. Ho et al 2016). In a first instance, we applied the likelihood ratio test to our data (Eq.…”

“…Following Kreckel et al (2016), we fit the stellar continuum with MIUSCAT templates (Vazdekis et al 2012) and measure emission lines using LZIFU (Ho et al 2016) assuming single Gaussian fits. These emission lines can serve as diagnostics for the mechanism that ionizes and excites the gas.…”

“…Examples of these products are shown in Figure 10 for a selection of galaxies spanning the range of stellar masses in DR1. Ho et al (2016b). These fits include corrections for underlying stellar-continuum absorption.…”
