Lymphangioma of Bladder

Abstract: We report the first case of a lymphangioma arising from the wall of the bladder, protruding into the lumen on 1 side and invading the peritoneal cavity on the other side. The presenting sign was painless macroscopic hematuria that had occurred initially 2 months before hospitalization. Treatment consisted of partial cystectomy. A review of the literature failed to reveal a report of an identical case.

“…Two cases of anterior urethral polyps in children have been described [6] and about 20 cases of urethral heman gioma have also been reported [7], A lymphangioma is often congenital and presumably arises from sequestration of primitive lymphatic anlagen and malformation of lymphatics. The resulting lymphan gioma becomes isolated from normal lymph vessels [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15], Whether the lymphangioma is a true neoplasm or hamartoma is controversial [8,9], Classification of lym phangiomas in various books is confusing but there are three main types: (1) capillary, presenting as diffuse or nodular growth of cheek, lip, tongue, skin or subcutaneous tissue, (2) cavernous, found in skin and mucous mem branes and (3) cystic, often described as cystic hygroma, found in neck, axilla, groin [12,15],…”
