“…1013 LNR is the ratio between the numbers of positive and examined lymph nodes (ELN). Node ratio has been suggested as a tool to predict outcome in cancers of the esophagus, 14 stomach, 15 ampulla of Vater, 16,17 colon, 18 and even non-GI cancers such as breast 19 and melanoma. 20 However, some authors have suggested that absolute numbers of PLN are an independent 2122 and better predictor 23 of survival than LNR.…”

“…Assessment of LN status is fairly simple, inexpensive and characterised by a high degree of reproducibility and objectivity. In addition, most centres in the UK and elsewhere have adopted axillary node sampling, which provides assessment of a limited number of nodes (usually two to five nodes per case including the sentinel node) and subsequently thorough assessment of LN status and detection of early stage positivity 25 31. In clinical practice, LN, which are examined in all invasive breast carcinomas, are grouped into distinct categories (stages) that can stratify patients into prognostically distinct groups for the management purpose.…”
