Abstract:Since antiquity pathologic stuttering has been a dramatic phe nomenon, involving, for example, such prominent personages as Moses, King Charles I, Charles Lamb, and Darwin and having in the United States in our day an incidence of more than one in every 100 individ uals. Our speech therapist introduces each patient to our chief psychologist, who has in various studies (1) found that preoperative and postoperative testing of each patient is beneficial in detecting emotional problems and ascertaining how these problems can be dealt with, and how progress in overcoming them is manifested.
