PurposeDrive, power and consciousness are the corner stones for the long-term sustainability of any industry. In the luxury yachting industry, the objective of this study is to evidence through the case of sunreed yachting that environmental innovation in the yachting industry has been key to sustainability.Design/methodology/approachAs a case study central to this paper, Sunreef has reconciled key luxury sustainability indicators to improve its brand image. This article adopted a case study approach to provide a systematic documentary analysis of online materials. It is also supported by a critical review of recent literature.FindingsBeyond reconciling the three core components of any long-term sustainable strategy, the paper provides evidence that luxury yachting can operate without impacting negatively on the environment and local population, providing it is fully aware of the challenges faced by the planet in terms of sustainability, and that everyone has a role to play in achieving sustainability (consciousness) and also a willingness (driver) to invest in research and development (power).Originality/valueThis paper addresses the sustainability challenge in the luxury yachting industry. The case of Sunreef Yachts Eco has shown that green communication and innovations are able to reverse the unsustainable ecological trends in the yachting industry. This paper argues that “green activism” is the key encapsulating all the approaches by Sunreef, linking “consciousness”, “power” and “drivers” in sustainability yachting.

The COVID-19 outbreak has paralyzed the hospitality industry globally. In Bengkulu, the COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on hotel business continuity in line with the government's directive to stay at home. This study examines the opportunities for business hotel business continuity by implementing new protocol standards during the pandemic crisis for hotel businesses in Bengkulu City. This study uses a case study with a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with managerial positions, literature studies, and government regulations. This study shows that there are new opportunities and expectations of hoteliers with the implementation of the standard protocol of government regulations to wear a mask, wash your hands with soap, and keep a distance to continue business operations. This study will share the experience directly facing the business hotel business operators to maintain business operations in the city of Bengkulu.Keywords : COVID-19; Hospitality Industry; Business Operation; Business Sustainability. ABSTRAKWabah COVID-19 telah melumpuhkan industri perhotelan secara global. Di Bengkulu, wabah COVID-19 berdampak pada terancamnya keberlangsungan usaha hotel seiring dengan arahan pemerintah untuk beraktivitas dirumah saja. Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang peluang keberlangsungan usaha hotel bisnis dengan menerapkan standar protokol baru selama krisis pandemi bagi bisnis hotel di Kota Bengkulu. Studi ini menggunakan metode qualitative dengan menggunakan studi melalui observasi secara langsung dengan mewawancarai posisi manajerial, studi literatur, dan peraturan pemerintah kota Bengkulu yang diterapkan. Kajian ini menunjukkan terdapat peluang baru dan harapan pelaku bisnis hotel dengan penerapan new-normal pada penerapan standar protokol dari peraturan pemerintah untuk menggunakan masker, mencuci tangan dengan sabun, serta menjaga jarak selama melanjutkan operasi bisnis. Studi ini berbagi pembelajaran langsung yang dihadapi pihak pelaku usaha hotel bisnis untuk mempertahankan operasi bisnis di kota Bengkulu.Kata Kunci : COVID-19; Industri Perhotelan; Operasional bisnis; Keberlanjutan usaha.

PurposeAs a contribution to current knowledge of luxury yachting, this study applies a theoretical discussion to explain how gratification, social motives, financial risk and status quo interact to predict satisfaction and word-of-mouth intentions among luxury yachting travelers. Additionally, gender moderating effects on antecedent factors of satisfaction were examined.Design/methodology/approachA questionnaire was distributed in the United Arab Emirates, and 228 valid questionnaires were received which were analyzed with AMOS structural equation modeling.FindingsThe results of this study were analyzed using structural equation modeling. According to the results, factors such as gratification, social motives, and the status quo are significantly associated with satisfaction. The degree of satisfaction is directly related to the likelihood of spreading word of mouth. Result differences between males and females can be explained by moderating effects.Originality/valueThis is one of the first studies that examine the antecedents of luxury yachting to satisfaction and word of mouth impact.
