“…In addition, luteolin treatment prevented the loss of catalase activity, which is responsible for the conversion of H 2 O 2 into H 2 O and O 2 (Kwiecien et al, ), preserving values similar to those found in the naive group. Li et al () have evaluated the effect of luteolin on DSS‐induced colitis and have found comparable results, suggesting that luteolin may activate the Nrf2 pathway. Nevertheless, luteolin itself is a potent antioxidant molecule (IC 50 of ~1.84 μg·ml −1 was found in DPPH assay; Figure S7), and then, its directly scavenging properties on ROS formed during the pathophysiology of mucositis, at least in part, may contribute for the beneficial effects of the compound, as described here.…”

“…Li et al . reported the ameliorative effect of Luteolin in dextran sulfate sodium‐induced colitis via activation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway. Similarly, Javkhedkar and Banday documented that Resveratrol activated phase II antioxidant enzymes via Nrf2 signaling cascade, mitigated oxidative stress and normalized high blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).…”

“…[55] In addition, Luteolin increased the activity of SOD, CAT and the level of Nrf2 and its downstream targets HO-1 and NQO1 in 3 % dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-treat rats. [56] Besides, Luteolin increased the level of Nrf2 through Nrf2/NF-κB/P53 signaling pathway in the presence of HgCl 2 which led to increased Bax and decreased Bcl-2. [57] Furthermore, Luteolin inhibits HgCl 2 -induced renal injury by activating Nrf2 signaling pathway and increasing its subsequent protein HO-1, NQO1.…”

“…Luteolin (1.2 mg/kg body weight/d) could significantly reduce the enzyme activity in colon and liver and increase the level of phase 2 enzyme in Male Balb/C mice . In addition, Luteolin increased the activity of SOD, CAT and the level of Nrf2 and its downstream targets HO‐1 and NQO1 in 3 % dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)‐treat rats .
