Abstract. An important branch of investigation in the field of agents has been the definition of high level languages for representing effects of actions, the programs written in such languages being usually called action programs. Logic programming is an important area in the field of knowledge representation and some languages for specifying updates of Logic Programs had been defined. Starting from the update language Evolp, in this work we propose a new paradigm for reasoning about actions called Evolp action programs. We provide translations of some of the most known action description languages into Evolp action programs, and underline some peculiar features of this newly defined paradigm. One such feature is that Evolp action programs can easily express changes in the rules of the domains, including rules describing changes.

Abstract. Among others, Alferes et al. (1998) presented an approach for updating logic programs with sets of rules based on dynamic logic programs. We syntactically redefine dynamic logic programs and investigate their semantical properties, looking at them from perspectives such as a belief revision and abstract consequence relation view. Since the approach does not respect minimality of change, we refine its stable model semantics and present minimal stable models and strict stable models. We also compare the update approach to related work, and find that is equivalent to a class of inheritance programs independently defined by Buccafurri et al. (1999).

Abstract. Event-Condition-Action (ECA) languages are an intuitive and powerful paradigm for programming reactive systems. Usually, important features for an ECA language are reactive and reasoning capabilities, the possibilities to express complex actions and events and a declarative semantics. In this paper, we introduce ERA, an ECA language based on the framework of logic programs updates that, together with these features, also exhibits capabilities to integrate external updates and perform self updates to its knowledge (data and classical rules) and behaviour (reactive rules).
