Lung Cancer, Endocrınopathıes And Paraneoplastıc Syndromes

Abstract

Thyroid diseases and diabetes mellitus are the most common endocrine diseases. Lung cancer is also one of the most frequent cancer types observed worldwide. Therefore, diabetes and thyroid diseases are frequently observed in patients with lung cancer. The diagnosis and management of these diseases are important; hence, uncontrolled diabetes and thyroid diseases might increase postoperative mortality and morbidity rates. Endocrinologic paraneoplastic syndromes frequently accompany lung cancer. These diseases may be observed as the first sign of the disease or may cause a delay in treatment and an increase in mortality. In addition, lung cancer may metastasize to vital endocrine organs, causing hormonal insufficiencies that may be mortal if not treated. In patients with lung cancer, the treatment of comorbidities and coincidence diseases are as important as the treatment of primary diseases to decrease the mortality and morbidity rates.
