Luminescent Organic Semiconducting Langmuir Monolayers

Abstract: In recent years, monolayer organic field-effect devices such as transistors and sensors have demonstrated their high potential. In contrast, monolayer electroluminescent organic field-effect devices are still in their infancy. One of the key challenges here is to create an organic material that self-organizes in a monolayer and combines efficient charge transport with luminescence. Herein, we report a novel organosilicon derivative of oligothiophene-phenylene dimer D2-Und-PTTP-TMS (D2, tetramethyldisiloxane; U… Show more

“…Of late semiconducting organic films have been used to constract FET devices [121]. It has been observed that remarkable increase in carrier mobility occurred for the devices that has been built using LB films of organic materials during the last fifteen years [122, 123, 124, 125].…”

“…This work used a method involving the horizontal lifting of a Langmuir monolayer film onto a solid surface, a process called LS technique. The results indicated that the ordered LS monolayers exhibit a prominent PL that is better than that of polycrystalline devices (Figure c,d) . Controlled assembly of the n‐type organic semiconductor N , N ′‐1H,1H‐perfluorobutyl dicyanoperylenecarboxydiimide (PDIF‐CN 2 ) via the LB technique has also been reported.…”

“…It is because molecular forces are strictly regulated in the process that the resulting films can be smooth and uniform in thickness, less affected by the uneven solvent evaporation at the interface. It should be noted that the Langmuir technique 117–120 and self‐assembly 64,121–123 are in the category of nanoadditive manufacturing, which is usually applied for fabricating monolayer OFET devices. As mentioned before, the extreme case of ultrathin films is a monolayer, and a number of examples given here in various fabrication methods are monolayer OFET‐based chemical sensors.…”
