Luminescence Intensity Ratio Thermometry with Er3+: Performance Overview

Abstract: The figures of merit of luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) thermometry for Er3+ in 40 different crystals and glasses have been calculated and compared. For calculations, the relevant data has been collected from the literature while the missing data were derived from available absorption and emission spectra. The calculated parameters include Judd–Ofelt parameters, refractive indexes, Slater integrals, spin–orbit coupling parameters, reduced matrix elements (RMEs), energy differences between emitting levels us… Show more

“…Fig. 6(b) shows that the original data for the I 540 nm /I 663 nm as a function of the temperature tting with the eqn (5). Consequently the FIR based on 5 S 2 , 5 F 4 / 5 F 5 (Ho 3+ ) shows the signicant temperature dependence and well ts the eqn (5).…”

“…2 Some UC luminescent materials with doping of RE 3+ ions have been studied for temperature sensors. [3][4][5][6][7] The FIR technology based on the measurement of the temperature-dependent FIR from two excited state energy levels of activators represents an accurate temperature measuring method, because the FIR from the thermally coupled levels (TCLs) of RE ions is independent of the excitation intensity uctuations, external disturbance and spectrum losses. Thus, reasonable measurement accuracy and sensitivity could be obtained with this method.…”

“…The dipole strength of the electric dipole (ED) transition is defined as 9 where U λ are the squared reduced matrix elements (RMEs), and e = 4.803 × 10 10 esu is the elementary charge. RMEs are often considered host-independent; for this reason, many researchers have consorted to using the values tabulated by Carnall et al 23 instead of calculating them for a particular host by employing Slater integrals and spin-orbit coupling parameters 24 . The magnetic dipole (MD) transition has a dipole strength that is also host-independent.…”
