“…Over the past decades, thanks to the development of nanotechnology and material science, the typical size of nanochannels has decreased to the range of Debye length. Nanofluidics, thus, has rapidly developed in the fields of energy, desalination, filtration, , and biosensing. With asymmetrical nanostructure or surface charge polarity in nanochannel, it is capable of emulating the selective ion transport in biological ion channels, thus rectifying the ionic current and acting as nanofluidic diode. Recently, nanofluidic systems with conical-shaped nanochannels showed promising features in neuromorphic computing, while the observed current hysteresis under alternating voltage supplies matches the features of memristors. ,, Since the memory effects were caused by the enrichment and depletion of ions inside of the nanochannels, we may expect excellent memory effects with an asymmetrically charged wall surface as the current rectification ratio could be significantly increased in asymmetrically charged nanochannel. ,, However, the memory effects in the asymmetrically charged system, as well as the optimal operating frequencies and impact of the Dukhin number, were not fully clear.…”
