LTE Advanced Relaying Standard: A Survey

Abstract: Abstract-LTE Advanced is a well designed system that meets the requirements of 4G cellular systems. Its standard specification has been lately released. One of its main features is supporting relaying topology inspired from ad hoc multihop networks. This paper is a survey upon the relaying architecture of LTE Advanced standard based on 3GPP Release 10 specifications. A comparison with other relaying architectures, i.e. IEEE 802.16m and IEEE 802.11s is handled. The originality of this work is in involving compa… Show more

“…As the technology progress and the networks evolve from 3G to 4G, 5G and even 6G [28], the number of articles that survey 4G and 5G networks increases from only one that was published back in 2007, to over twenty articles published in 2016. This increase on the number reveals an increase on the importance that researchers from around the world give on the new technology and the issues that arise regarding standardization [29], [30], [31], mobile internet applications [32], resource and mobility management [33], [34], energy [35], MIMO techniques [34], [20], [36], social perspectives [37] and so on (See Table III for detailed categorization).…”

“…The architecture comprises a VANET network composed of vehicles moving in a road and eNodeBs interconnected through X2 interface and connected via S1 interface to the LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) [9]. Fixed RSUs are deployed over the road.…”

“…The graph is composed of vertices and edges where a vertex represents one vehicular node. The edge is related with two vertices and to which a weight related to the link quality fraction will be affected, called hereafter P QoS , formulas (5) and (9). P QoS is computed based on the distance and the received signal strength.…”

“…Relay-assisted communications have become popular after the great work discussed in [2]. Due to the profitable assistance of MIMO relay nodes to the MIMO systems, the existing and future wireless networks, LTE, and advanced networks [3] are widely considering the relay-assisted MIMO (RA-MIMO) technologies as a vibrant candidate to support high data demands [4].…”
