<title>Thin crystalline film retarders for LCD</title>

Abstract: We have studied a new class of materials for LCD retarders produced by Cascade crystallization method. Advanced materials comprise the amphiphilic compounds and include salts of carboxylic and sulfonic acids with conjugated aromatic cores, which do not absorb light in visible range of light spectra. The Cascade crystallization method of manufacturing of the thin crystalline films (TCF) is based on printing from aqueous solution of lyotropic liquid crystal phase. We have produced and examined a series of retard… Show more

“…It shows broad peaks between 3600 and 2500 cm À1 and 1650 and 1400 cm À1 corresponding to stretching vibrations of cyclohexylammonium (nNH 3 + , nC-H) and (nO-H) of P-OH groups, respectively. 41 The stretching vibrations of the PO 2 central groups are observed between 1100 and 1300 cm À1 , those between 1260 and 955 cm À1 correspond to stretching vibrations of the PO 3 terminal groups 42,43 and those ranging from 975 to 650 cm À1 correspond to stretching P-O-P modes. 44 The bending vibrations of the PO 3 terminal groups are situated in the interval 610-460 cm À1 .…”

“…While the fabrication technique for C-plates and positive A-plates is relatively mature, negative A-plates have not been well explored. So far, several approaches have been proposed such as photo-induced polymerization [8] and self-assembled lyotropic liquid crystal films [9,10]. Both methods are effective for obtaining a large negative in-plane birefringence, but neither is ready for widespread applications.…”
