<title>Overview of electro-optical systems for scintillating fiber readout</title>

Abstract

1 Introduction DEP/Scientific DEP/Scientific (a DEP unit) is dedicated to serving the needs of the scientific market for image intensifiers and special photon detectors. Main markets are High Energy Physics, Space/Astronomy and medical science.DEP has been an image intensifier factory for about 20 years, until recently the main application for the products has been in night vision. The set of related technologies is extended with special photocathodes for (vacuum) UV and X-ray, fast gating capabilities, special read-out anodes, CCD-coupling and side-electronics. Since 1 986 DEP has been active in the Physics world, this business established from side-product to core product Recently the DEP activities were split in three commercial/development units: Defense, Industrial and Scientific. Within the scientific group many custom systems have been developed and built for scintillating fiber read-out Often this was done for, and in close collaboration with, CERN.A small selection of some typical tracker systems is presented, followed by the latest developments around the Hybrid Photodiode. The lafter device might replace PMT's in many physics applications.
