Abstract:Conventional optics is diffraction limited to about half of the effective optical wavelength. However the current trend towards miniaturization of optical elements and devices requires methods of observation with high spatial resolutions adapted to the micrometer and submicrometer optical regime. More specifically, the use of Scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM or NSOM) in various domains is overviewed. Basically an optical tip with a subwavelength aperture at its apex scans over a surface with a spat… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
