<title>Dynamics of self-organized porphyrin aggregates</title>

Abstract: Supramolecular ensembles stable at room temperature (complexation constant and activation energy range from 5 106 1 to 5. i07 NI' and from 0.5 to 1.0 eV correspondingly) containing up to five macrocyclic fragments have been constructed using two-fold ligation of Zn-porphyrin and Zn-chlorin chemical dimers by pyridyl substituted porphyrin or related molecules. Spectral, photophysical and thermodynamic properties oftriadic and pentadic arrays have been studied in a temperature range from 140 to 360 K. Kinetic be… Show more

“…In these aggregates Zn-porphyrin or Zn-chlorin dimers are coordinated at two points (i.e. both the Zn ions in the dimer subunits are coordinated simultaneously by the same free base) by the nitrogen atoms of two pyridyl substituents of tetrapyrrolic molecules [23][24][25]. Phenyl-bridged chemical dimers of Zn-porphyrins have been shown to facilitate the complex formation (complexation constants up to 5 × 10 7 M-~).…”

“…Recently we have applied a key-hole mechanism which is based on a modification of the abovementioned coordination method [22] and provides high complexation constants (= 107 M -l) for the construction of self-organized heterogeneous trimeric porphyrin assemblies [23][24][25]. In these aggregates Zn-porphyrin or Zn-chlorin dimers are coordinated at two points (i.e.…”

“…Chemical structures of the components used to form the arrays are given in [9, lo]. Synthesis, purification and identification of all monomeric and dimeric compounds as well as the procedure of calculation of thermodynamic parameters of the complexes (complexation constants, activation energy) will be published elsewhere [9,10]. All measurements were performed for the methylcyclohexane solutions (concentration ranged from 5.10m7 to 8 1 0e6 M) in the temperature range from 140 K to 360 K. When necessary small amounts (~10 % by volume) of dichloromethane were added to the stock solutions to dissolve some ligands.…”

“…Fluorescence lifetimes and time-resolved spectra were measured using photon-counting spectrofluorometer PRA 3000 and a laser fluorescent picosecond setup (the response time is down to 30 ps) [9].…”
