<p>Local ozone (O2–O3) versus corticosteroid injection efficacy in plantar fasciitis treatment: a double-blinded RCT</p>

Abstract: Purpose To compare the efficacy of local ozone injection versus corticosteroid in plantar fasciopathy treatment. Patients and methods This double-blinded randomized trial was performed on 44 adult patients with plantar fasciopathy. One group (23 patients) received local injection of 40 mg methylprednisolone, while a local injection of 3 cc oxygen-ozone solution was performed for the other group (21 subjects). Severity of pain, functional level, and pressure-pain thresho… Show more

“…4 Nonsurgical treatment options include rest, ice application, stretching, exercise, proper footwear, arch supports, orthotics, night splints, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), 5 anti-inflammatory agents, and various injections including corticosteroid (CS), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), 6,7 prolotherapy, 8 autologous whole blood, 9 botulinum toxin 10 or ozone. 11 CSs are the most common injection modality for PF. Based on a Cochrane review, CS injections have temporary effects for near 24 weeks.…”

“…There was no difference between the two groups in terms of pain and functional level. 39 In another study, Babaei-Ghazani et al, 30 patients diagnosed with PF were divided into two groups, the first group being treated with a methylprednisolone injection and OT being applied to the second group, both then followed for three months. As a result, they found that both methods were effective in the treatment of PF that and there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups.…”

“…A linear array transducer (6-13 MHz) (Acuson Freestyle, Siemens, Germany) figure (1) was used to measure the plantar fascia thickness and injection of the study drugs. To minimize the pain during the intervention: a pre-procedure block of posterior tibial was done guided by the ultrasound using 2ml 1% lidocaine hydrochloride figure (3).…”

“…The definite pathogenesis still not clear, but many causes are there as prominent heel spurs, overuse, repetitive microtrauma which could cause such pain and pathology. 1 Plasma is the liquid part of the blood in which the blood cells and platelets are suspended; it is a watery component that contains the different proteins and electrolytes. 2 Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a high concentration of autologous platelets in a small volume of plasma produced by centrifugation of the patient's blood.…”
