Cognitive predictors of physical activity behaviors among rural patients with type 2 diabetes: applicability of the Extended Theory of Reasoned Action (ETRA)

Abstract: Background: This study aims to examine the cognitive-behavioral determinants of physical activity behaviors (PABs) of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Subjects and methods: In this cross-sectional study, census sampling was employed to enroll 120 rural patients with type 2 diabetes in the Chalderan County in 2015. To collect data, a valid and reliable instrument, based on the Extended Theory of Reasoned Action (ETRA) constructs, was used. Data were analyzed by SPSS 21… Show more

“…Based on the t-test exam from the test family, and from the "correlation: point biserial model" in the statistical test, in the G*Power software the input parameters were two tail hypothesis, effect size= 0.245, α error probability= 0.05, power (1-β error probability= 0.95), respectively. Sample sized calculated to be 205 33 of which 192 agreed to participate in the study (Response rate= 93.7%).…”

“…The TRA by Ajzen and Fishbein (1980) has been tested in multiple health-related behaviors such as vaccination ( Kan and Zhang, 2018 ), physical activity ( Sarbazi et al, 2019 ), and healthy eating ( Kamar et al, 2016 ). According to the theory, an individual’s engagement in a specific behavior is being determined by the attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm, and behavioral intention ( Fishbein and Ajzen, 1975 ).…”

“…Based on the test exam from the t-test family, and from the “correlation: point biserial model” in the statistical test, using the G*Power software, the input parameters for two-tail hypothesis, effect size = 0.245, α error probability = 0.05, power (1-β error probability = 0.95), respectively, the sample size determined as 205 [ 30 ]. Finally, 192 people agreed to participate in the study and all of them completed the written questionnaire (Response rate = 93.7%) to participate in the study.…”
