Clinical Features of Pseudoexfoliative Glaucoma in Treated Polish Patients

Abstract: The aim of this study was to describe clinical characteristics of glaucomatous optic neuropathy in treated Polish patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. Methods: In the course of the study, 348 eyes of 231 patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. The patients involved in the study were treated in the Department of Diagnostic and Microsurgery of Glaucoma in Lublin between 2012 and 2019. The following parameters were assessed in the examination: visual acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopy with evaluation of anter… Show more

“…The studied groups were chosen to maximally diversify the groups in terms of the level of IOP. Our PEXG patients were clearly HTG [43], with the mean IOP near 30 mmHg, higher than typical POAG and almost twice higher than our NTG group. However, some researchers claim that vascular disturbances are also involved in the pathogenesis of PEXG.…”

“…The difference in gender between the studied groups reflects the difference in the epidemiology of the studied glaucoma subtypes in our population. As we have described previously, NTG is more frequent in females [32], in contrast to PEXG, which is more common in males [43]. However, some studies suggest that gender may influence the OCTA parameters [63].…”

“…The patients with peak IOP above 21 mmHg were designated as high-tension cases and those 21 mmHg and under, as normaltension cases [14]. In addition, we categorized the levels of visual acuity as follows: a) 0.4 -0.6 (mild visual impairment), b) 0.2 -0.3 (moderate visual impairment) and c) 0.05 -0.1 (severe visual impairment) [15] SPSS Statistics software version 17 was used to perform all statistical analyses.…”

“…Pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (XFG) typically is a hypertensive form with an open angle, in which the exfoliation material disturbs aqueous humor outflow. However, variants of XFG with normal tension have also been described [4].…”
