“…The combined size of our patient’s cysts measured 183 X 209.5 X 333 mm in maximum anteroposterior, transverse, and craniocaudal dimensions, which, upon our extensive literature search, turns out to be the largest reported collection of cysts in the thoracic cavity. A previously reported pulmonary hydatid cyst that measured 150x 145 x 160 mm was described as “huge" [ 11 ]. This may indicate that, if left untreated, hydatid cyst disease could continue to expand en masse, resulting in an array of mechanical complications.…”

“…The cyst can be infiltrated with 20% hypertonic saline if it cannot be excised, but spillage should be avoided due to the adverse effects. Rupture of the cyst can cause severe anaphylaxis; hence, the puncture, aspiration, injection, and reinjection technique can be used to avoid this complication [ 3 , 12 ]. Pharmacotherapy can also be opted for when surgery is contraindicated, such as in a patient whose condition is fragile, and augmented with surgery to avoid recurrences [ 10 ].…”

“…Cystic hydatidosis has a worldwide distribution and is endemic in areas with low sanitation and rural areas with poor housing conditions where humans live in close contact with cattle and canines, especially dogs [2][3][4]. This parasite is transmitted through contamination of food and water with its eggs found in definitive hosts like dogs' , wolves' , and foxes' feces [5].…”
