“…The extract of E. hierosolymitana was found to contain 1-octen-3-ol, which is a mushroom alcohol that has been shown to have strong antifungal and antibacterial activities against Gram-positive bacteria including S. aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Bacillus subtilis [25]. In the present study, the same metabolite was confirmed to be present in E. hierosolymitana and the anti-staphylococcal activity may result from the presence of this metabolite.…”

“…Besides bacterial pathogens, fungal isolates Aspergillus niger, Candida crusei, Fusarium oxysporium and Mucor spp were also identified in various types of food. Similar fungal isolates were also discovered in different foods before [23][24][25].…”

“…Low antifungal activity was observed for the Nystatin. Previous studies also show differential activities of various antifungals against the fungal isolates recovered from various foods [23,30].…”

“…1-octen-3-ol for instance is responsible for the characteristic mushroom-smell and is produced by a broad variety of fungi. It is known to attract insects (Kline et al, 2007), exhibit antibacterial and slight antifungal properties (Xiong et al, 2017) and inhibit the germination of plant seeds and the growth of seedlings (Hung et al, 2014). Although the effect of VOCs emitted by the ∆lox1 mutants and the wildtype on Arabidopsis root architecture and shoot weight was similar in our study, the mutants had an enhanced ability to induce systemic resistance against B. cinerea.…”
