<b>Using discrete event simulation to change from a functional layout to a cellular layout in an auto parts industry

Abstract: ABSTRACT. This paper presents a discrete event simulation employed in a Brazilian automotive company. There was a huge waste caused by one family scrap. It was believed one reason was the company functional layout. In this case, changing from current to cellular layout, employee synergy and knowledge about this family would increase. Due to the complexity for dimensioning a new cellular layout, mainly because of batch size and client's demand variation. In this case, discrete event simulation was used, which m… Show more

“…This technique was chosen because it allowed a graphical representation of human resources (operators) to be inserted in the process flow or in the state and object transition network (Maurício, Montevechi, Leal, Miranda, & Lombardi, 2015), which was important for the context of the study.…”

“…Simulation applied because the problem cannot solved by the complex dynamic equations of analytical methods [8]. It is powerful to solve problems in a complex system, which incorporated numbers of interrelated variables [9][10][11][12]. It is suitable for capturing the potential improvement regarding wide area of logistics by cooperating the analysis of complex and stochastic process [10,13].…”

“…Greinacher et al (2015) realizaram um estudo de simulação para analisar sistemas de manufatura enxuta e green. Já Maurício et al (2015), utilizaram a simulação para um estudo de alteração de leiaute. Mesmo com as diferenças entre os sistemas estudados, foi possível chegar a resultados positivos para as organizações.…”
