LPG sensor based on complete inorganic n-Bi2S3-p-CuSCN heterojunction synthesized by a simple chemical route

Abstract: An effective and versatile room temperature soft chemical route was employed to deposit n-Bi2S3 films followed by p-CuSCN films onto fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrates. Well optimized preparative parameters led to the formation of a good heterojunction between the n-Bi2S3 and p-CuSCN films without any post-annealing treatment. An interconnected microflake of CuSCN on to the nanocrystalline Bi2S3 film enables a high porous structure in the top layer. The device was completed by ensuring silv… Show more

“…The immersion time of the substrate in an anionic and cationic precursor was taken as 60 s each, with 30 s rinsing time in double distilled water. The film waswashed with double distilled water in intermediate steps[19]. Upon completion of each cycle, a thin layer of Bi 2 S 3 nanoparticles was deposited onto the ZnO nanorods surface.…”

“…Many reports are focused on nanomaterials hetero junctions i.e. two layer type nanomaterials development to sense different gases [85][86][87][88][89]. The amorphous/porous nature of the silicon deposited by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique was used under bias condition to enhance the sensitivity towards ethanol and water vapors [85].…”

“…Recently, a few reports have emerged for room temperature LPG sensors based on electrochemically deposited p-poly aniline with n-CdTe deposited by the electrochemical method [88]. Ladhe RD et al [89] was used room temperature soft chemical route for producing n-Bi 2 S 3 films followed by p-CuSCN films onto Fluorine doped Tin Oxide (FTO) coated glass substrates for LPG gas sensor at room temperature. The device exhibited more than 70% response at 1370 ppm of LPG because upper porous structure allowed enough room for the gas species to adsorb and de-adsorb easily at the interface [89].…”

“…The gas sensing properties of n-ZnO/p-PEDOT:PSS (3,4 polyethylenedioxythiophene:poly (styrene sulfonic acid)) heterojunction were studied by using a lab-made gas sensor unit described elsewhere [16]. The forward biased current density-voltage (J-V) characteristics of the junction, before and after exposure to gas environment were measured at room temperature in a voltage range of 0-3 V. The electrical current of n-ZnO/p-PEDOT:PSS heterojunction in air (Ia) and in the presence of gas (Ig) was measured.…”
