This paper proposes a new reduced switch count seven-level triple boost inverter based on switched capacitor technique. The proposed topology has fewer number of components and has the ability of balancing the voltage across the capacitors. The structure of the proposed topology is very simple and can be easily extended to higher number of voltage levels. The generalized structure for higher number of levels is presented. The level shifted pulse width modulation approach is used to evaluate the proposed topology. In addition, design of switched capacitors and power loss calculation of semiconductor switches are provided. This proposed inverter topology is compared with the state-of-art topologies to demonstrate its superior performance. Further, thermal modelling of the topology is done in PLECS to calculate the power losses and efficiency. Finally, this proposed 7-level topology is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink and tested on experimental prototype for the performance verification and the results are included.INDEX TERMS Switched Capacitor, multilevel inverter, DC-AC conversion, triple boost, high gain, selfvoltage balancing

Multilevel inverters (MLIs) with switched-capacitor (SC) units have been a widely rehearsed research topic in power electronics since the last decade. Inductorless/transformerless operation with voltage-boosting feature and inherent capacitor self-voltage balancing performance with a reduced electromagnetic interference make the SC-MLI an attractive converter over the other available counterparts for various applications. There have been many developed SC-MLI structures recently put forward, where different basic switching techniques are used to generate multiple (discrete) output voltage levels. In general, the priority of the topological development is motivated by the number of output voltage levels, overall voltage gain, and full dc-link voltage utilization, while reducing the component counts and stress on devices for better efficiency and power density. To facilitate the direction of future research in SC-MLIs, this article presents a comprehensive review, critical analysis, and categorization of the existing topologies. Common fundamental units are generalized and summarized with their merits and demerits. Ultimately, major challenges and research directions are outlined leading to the future technology roadmap for more practical applications.

Transformerless inverters have recently gained attention in view of their economic benefits and compactness for photovoltaic (PV) systems. However, the limited voltage regulation and common‐mode (CM) leakage current are major concerns in conventional transformerless PV inverters. This paper presents a single‐phase seven‐level buck‐boost common ground transformerless inverter (SLB2CGTLI) to achieve a wide range of output voltages and zero leakage current without any additional stages, respectively. The proposed converter utilizes switched capacitor (SC) cell to buck‐boost the input DC voltage and generates seven‐level voltage at the output terminals. A simple reconfiguration strategy is adopted in the switched capacitor cell to maintain the charge‐second balance across the capacitors. Moreover, the common ground between the AC grid neutral and the PV panel's negative terminal mitigates the leakage current completely. The theoretical steady state analysis for both buck and boost mode is presented and verified with simulation using MATLAB Simulink. The performance of the proposed inverter is analyzed and validated with experimental results by developing a laboratory prototype. Further, the dynamic response of the proposed converter is carried out using OP4510 real‐time simulator for the grid‐connected PV application.
