Low urine pH associated with sarcopenia in the elderly

Abstract: The pathophysiology of sarcopenia is complex and must be further explored. While metabolic acidosis may be a risk factor for sarcopenia, it remains unclear whether acidic urine is related to sarcopenia. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between sarcopenia and urine pH in the elderly. An elderly population (n = 123 [male = 46]; mean age = 81.7 years) was classified into 2 groups based on the sarcopenia status according to their strength, requirement of assistance in walking, the… Show more

“…All tests reported herein were at pH 6.5 or 7, which is near many bodily fluids such as CSF and saliva. However, human urine can have a broad pH range depending on sex and disease state. , In future work, tests for effectiveness of WG-1 silicone will be extended to a broader pH range, tests for hemocompatibility will be carried out, and control of attachment of human cells will be explored to widen the range of potential applications for WG-1 silicone.…”

“…Urine pH was measured with a reagent test strip in which methyl red and bromothymol blue yielded different colors at different pH values ( 8 ). Using the test strip, the pH of the midstream urine was determined based on the color in 30 to 60 seconds with 0.5 intervals.…”

“…Indeed, several studies have proven the survival benefits of this approach (4,5). Moreover, to obtain a better solution for this poor prognostic cancer, studies have focused on the identification and stratification of risk factors via orthogonal approaches, including genetic analysis and molecular subtyping, to enhance the survival outcomes (6)(7)(8)(9).…”
