“…After that, many studies are present in the literature indicating a relationship between glaucoma and migraine either as a cause or a factor for progression. 1,2,[19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27] Recently, visual field abnormalities of migraine patients in SWAP testing was further analysed by us and we found that 53.3% of migraine patients had abnormal glaucoma hemifield tests, which is highly specific to glaucoma disease. …”

“…The visual field tests were performed using the C30-2 program of Humphrey visual field analyser, Model 750 (Zeiss Inc, San Leandro, CA, USA) or Model 630 (Allergan Inc, San Leandro, CA, USA). We defined NTG according to the following criteria: (1) intraocular pressure consistently less than 21 mm Hg in an eye without antiglaucoma medication, (2) characteristic glaucomatous optic nerve head damage, (3) glaucomatous visual field loss, (4) no neuroradiological evidence of optic nerve damage, (5) open iridocorneal angle, and no abnormal chamber angle structure on gonioscopic examination. POAG was defined to meet the same criteria of NTG except for intraocular pressure greater than 21 mm Hg in an eye without antiglaucoma medication.…”

“…Among the evidence supporting this theory were the different patterns of visual field defect [1][2][3][4][5] and optic nerve head configuration. 3 5-9 The frequent occurrence of optic disc haemorrhage and the high incidence of systemic diseases [10][11][12][13][14] in patients with NTG also suggested that a damaging mechanism other than high intraocular pressure contributed to the glaucomatous damage.…”

“…In its clinical appearance, NTG almost perfectly mimics primary openangle glaucoma (POAG): normal angles on gonioscopy, cupping of the optic nerve, and visual field loss correlated with cupping that shows the progressive damage of the optic nerve [1]. In East Asia, NTG seems to be more frequent than POAG with high IOP [2] and it is certainly the most common form of glaucoma in Japan [3].…”
