As one of the 1D nanomaterials, Se nanochains have been widely used in photoelectric devices, such as photodetectors, battery devices, and optical sensors due to their excellent photoelectric properties. Among them, ultrafast photonics has attracted much attention due to its wide applications; for instance, environmental monitoring, material processing, biomedical imaging, nonlinear optical generation, and free‐space optical communication. Herein, Se nanochains are fabricated by trapping Se species in the circular 1D channel of AlPO4‐5 (AFI) crystal, and the characteristics of Se@AFI are systemically investigated. In addition, the AFI single crystal loaded with Se nanochains in the channel is successfully prepared as a saturable absorber in the fiber laser. The mode‐locking pulse at 1.5 and 1 μm with the repetition rate of 13.16 and 14.74 MHz can be obtained by integrating the Se@AFI composite material in the cavity. The signal‐to‐noise ratios are both over 70 dB, suggesting the high operational stability of the pulses. These results indicate that Se@AFI has good potential as saturable absorber material with a broad wavelength range for ultrafast pulsed fiber lasers. Our results will also provide a new idea for designing air‐stable ultrafast photonic devices and other composite materials in various fields.

Portable electronic devices and electric vehicles have become indispensable in daily life and caused an increasing demand for high‐performance lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) with high‐energy‐density. This work compares the intrinsic characteristics and Li+ conduction mechanisms of various electrolytes, aiming at emphasizing their suitability for high‐energy‐density LIBs. Among all electrolytes, polymer‐based solid‐state electrolytes (SSEs) are the most promising candidates, as they demonstrate the most comprehensive properties. The advantages and disadvantages of commonly used polymer matrix materials of SSEs are discussed, along with typical approaches to address their limitations. As significant issues for high‐energy‐density and cycle stability, the development related to the cathode/electrolyte interfacial contact and wetting, interfacial electrochemical compatibility, and interfacial Li+ conduction in LIBs employing polymer‐based SSEs, as well as the anode/electrolyte interfacial chemical stability and lithium dendrite suppression are comprehensively reviewed and analyzed. Finally, perspectives on future research directions for developing high‐energy‐density LIBs are highlighted building upon the existing literature.

Initially anode‐free Li metal batteries present a promising power source that merges high production feasibility of Li‐ion batteries with superb energy capabilities of Li metal batteries. However, their application confronts formidable challenges of extremely short lifespan due to the inadequacy of zero‐Li‐excess cell configuration against irreversible Li loss. We report a Li compensation coupled interface engineering strategy for realizing long‐life quasi‐solid‐state anode‐free batteries. The Li2S is utilized as a sacrificial Li supplement to effectively counterbalance irreversible Li loss without damage to cell chemistry. Meanwhile, it demonstrates remarkable efficacy in establishing a robust yet slender inorganic‐organic hybrid solid‐state interphase for inhibiting cell degradation by dead and dendritic Li. This strategy enables quasi‐solid‐state anode‐free batteries with a long lifespan of 500 cycles. The Ah‐scale quasi‐solid‐state pouch cells, featuring a high‐loading LiFePO4 cathode and lean gel polymer electrolyte, exhibit a high specific energy of 300 Wh kgcell–1. This achievement translates into an improvement of 46% in gravimetric energy and 94% in volumetric energy compared to LiFePO4||graphite batteries while outperforming LiFePO4||Li metal batteries by 22 – 47% in volumetric energy. Such quasi‐solid‐state anode‐free cells also demonstrate good safety, showcasing remarkable resistance against nail penetration in ambient air without failure, smoke or fire accidents.This article is protected by copyright.
