Low-profile and wide-band RCS-reduction antenna array based on the metasurface polarization converter

Abstract: Antenna elements with a low profile and high front-to-back (FB) ratio mean that no additional reflective cavity is required when forming the array, which greatly helps to simplify and lighten the entire array system. In this paper, we enhance the FB ratio of the antenna to 35 dB while maintaining an ultra-low profile of 0.05 λ0 by attaching the broadband polarization conversion metasurfaces (PCMs) as the parasitic patches to the surface of the radiating patch. Meanwhile, the array formed by the proposed antenn… Show more

“…RCS reduction metasurfaces have made significant progress. Most research focuses on the metasurface-based low-RCS high-gain antenna [ 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. This research introduces complex multilayer structures to reduce RCS and enhance the gain of the meta-antenna.…”

“…In addition to polarization regulation of EM waves, polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) can be used for RCS reduction by arranging the array and its mirror array. In Refs., [11][12][13][14][15][16][17] only one PCM unit was designed and obvious RCS reductions were achieved in broadband. It's worth noting that the results of RCS reduction depend on the performances of unit cell.…”
