Abstract: A controlled reaction schema for addition curing silicones leads both to significantly lower elastic modulus and lower viscous dissipation than for the chemically identical network prepared by the traditional reaction schema.

“…Stress was then calculated from the force assuming the incompressibility of the films. Dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS) was performed on a Novocontrol Alpha-A high performance frequency analyser (Novocontrol Technologies GmbH & Co) operating in the frequency range 10 -1 -10 6 Hz at room temperature. The diameter of the tested 0.5-1 mm thick samples was 25 mm.…”

“…Attempts at decreasing the voltage have also been made by decreasing the Young's modulus. These efforts include solvent techniques 5 and bimodal networks 6,7 . Furthermore, several research studies have attempted to create improved DEs through a combination of decreased Young's modulus and an increased dielectric permittivity, in order to achieve a synergistic impact on lowering the driving voltage.…”

“…Unimodal refers to the polymer used in the preparation, which has a unimodal molecular weight distribution ensuring homogeneous distribution of the crosslinks. Details of the unimodal networks synthesis procedure have been explained in details elsewhere 20,21 .…”

“…So-called bimodal networks are prepared by a tedious synthesis procedure where small hyperbranched clusters are allowed to form before allowing the network to form. This reaction schema gives excellent tear strength as well as highly extensible elastomers [9][10] . However, in most commercial elastomer formulations silica particles are used to reinforce the elastomer.…”
