Low latitude E-region irregularities studied using Gadanki radar, ionosonde and in situ measured electron density

Abstract: In this paper, we attempt to identify the driving forces responsible for the generation of low-latitude Eregion field-aligned irregularities (FAIs). It is evident that the low-latitude E-region FAIs occur both during the day and night with preferential occurrence being most during local sunrise period. Simultaneous measurements are made with Gadanki radar and nearby located Ionosonde for understanding the low-latitude Es-FAIs relationship. The observations suggest that the occurrence and SNR of FAIs have a clo… Show more

“…Specifically, in some stations, as in Santa Maria (29.7 °S, 53.8 °W, dip ~-37 °) and Cachoeira Paulista (22.7 °S, 45 °W, dip ~35 °), the auroral or Es a layer occurred during geomagnetically disturbed times (Da Silva et al, 2022;Moro et al, 2022). Kumar et al, (2009) studied the E-region field-aligned irregularities, named FAIs, at low latitudes using measurements of radar and ionosonde. The authors analyzed the relationship between the FAIs occurrence and Es layer frequency parameters.…”
