“…As for the effects of LIPUS on macrophage polarization, studies have shown that LIPUS irradiation suppresses inflammatory responses and fibrosis in drug-induced renal injury [ 29 ]. Additionally, it promotes skeletal muscle regeneration by enhancing M2-shifted macrophage polarization during the skeletal muscle repair process [ 28 , 29 ]. Therefore, it is thought that LIPUS affected macrophage polarization in the IFP, resulting in a predominance of M2 macrophages and suppression of fibrosis.…”

“…This results in a decreased release of heat shock protein and an increase in M2 macrophages. Additionally, LIPUS has been reported to increase the number of macrophages [ 29 ], suggesting a mechanism that involves the regulation of macrophage function through these effects.…”

“…Several recent studies note a reduction in tissue inflammation with the use of LIPUS. One potential mechanism for explaining this reductive inflammatory effect points to regulating macrophage polarization [ 137 , 141 , 142 , 143 ]. This therapeutic means may hold promise in chronic wounds where a paucity of M2 macrophages as well as impaired angiogenesis is pathophysiologically critical.…”

“…Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound is another form of mechanical stimulation that promotes repair. Several studies have shown that low-intensity pulsed ultrasound activates macrophages, enhances mRNA expression of anti-inflammatory genes (Arg-1, PPAR-γ, and IL-4), promotes M2 polarization via the WNT signalling pathway, and inhibits necroptosis via HSP-70 reduction [ 47 , 48 ]. In muscle, following pulsed ultrasound, the total macrophage population decreased but the proportion of M2-like macrophages increased [ 48 ].…”
