Low‐energy electron interactions with tungsten hexacarbonyl – W(CO)6

Abstract: Dissociative electron attachment (DEA) to W(CO)(6) led to strong dissociation but a complete loss of all CO ligands was not observed in DEA. Deposit contaminations might be a direct result of DEA reactions close to the irradiation spot in beam deposition techniques.

“…This experimental setup allowed the investigation of positive and negative ions as well as the dissociation of metastable ions in the microsecond timescale. The present results can be compared to a previous measurement with the precursor W(CO) 6 [6]. Remarkably, a completely different anion yield pattern regarding the loss of CO-ligands is observed.…”

“…Chromium containing compounds are used in FEBID as precursor molecules due to the high purity of the deposit-structure [1][4] [5]. In this gas phase study, the interaction of organometallic chromium hexacarbonyl (Cr(CO) 6 ) precursor molecules and low-energy electrons (between ~ 0-70 eV) was investigated. All measurements were carried out using a double focusing two sector field mass spectrometer in reversed NierJohnson geometry.…”

“…As an experimental technique, mass spectrometry of negative ions in electron resonance capture mode ranks next to the fractional quantum Hall effect in which fractional values of the charge quantization are observed. Also noted the resonance possibility capture of electron with "negative" kinetic energy. The recent reports of Wnorowski et al [1,2] on investigations of the decay of tungsten hexacarbonyl, W(CO) 6 , using electron ionization (EI)[1] and dissociative electron attachment (DEA)[2] methods were of particular interest to the low-temperature plasma and nanotechnology communities. Furthermore, the dissociative photoionisation of W(CO) 6 was, however, discussed in an earlier paper.…”

“…In previous publications dealing with experimental mass spectrometry of tungsten hexacarbonyl, hexafluoroacetylacetone and its bidentate metal complexes M(hfac) 2 ; M = Cu, Pd the obtained data have been not adequately systematized. In this paper, we analyse the previously published experimental data of the various bond dissociation energy.…”
