Low Energy Characterization of Caliste HD, a Fine Pitch CdTe-Based Imaging Spectrometer

Abstract: Caliste HD is a recently developed micro-camera designed for X and gamma-ray astronomy, based on a 1×1 cm 2 CdTe Schottky pixelated detector. Its entire surface is composed of 256 pixels, disposed on a 16×16 pixel matrix. This spectrometer is buttable on its 4 sides and can be used to create a large focal plane. Caliste HD is designed for space environment. Its IDeF-X front-end electronics has a low power consumption, excellent noise performance and a wide dynamic range, from 2 keV to 1 MeV. Moreover, electron… Show more

“…The camera was connected to a FPGA board enabling a 14-bit ADC, used for slow-control and to extract signal For the entire matrix, we found an average gain value of 51.47 eV/ADU. It is approximately 4 times larger than that measured in [14] using the minimum dynamic range, as expected. The gain standard deviation is found to be only 0.39 eV/ADU.…”

“…Due to the thickness of the detector, we observe a progressive decrease of the detection efficiency (below 50% after 143 keV), with the Compton effect becoming predominant. Major energy peaks are indicated and also listed in [14].…”
