Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL)-Antioxidant Biflavonoids from Garcinia madruno

Abstract: Six biflavonoids were isolated from G. madruno, one of which, 7''-O-(6''''-acetyl)-glucoside of morelloflavone, is a new compound identified on the basis of 1D, 2D NMR (HMQC and HMBC) spectroscopic methods and chemical evidence. The antioxidant activity of the biflavonoids against low-density lipoprotein (LDL) peroxidation induced with Cu2+, was studied by means of a TBARS assay. The antioxidant potential of a biflavonoid fraction (BF) was also evaluated and correlated with its biflavonoid content. The flavano… Show more

“…The low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation inhibition was determined by the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) method (Osorio et al, 2013). For this, LDL and VLDL + Qm fractions were isolated through a discontinuous density gradient centrifugation procedure using a Beckman XL-100 ultracentrifuge (Brea, CA, USA) (Bravo et al, 2015).…”

“…LDL oxidation inhibition was determined by the thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) method. 25,26 Initially, LDL was isolated through a discontinuous density gradient centrifugation procedure using a Beckman XL-100 ultracentrifuge (Beckman Instruments, Brea, CA, USA). Blood plasma from healthy human volunteers was separated by low-speed centrifugation at 600 × g for 15 min.…”

“…Biflavonoids are flavonoid dimers that have been attached to each other by either C-C or C-O-C bonds representing a variety of chemical structures [2]. Several biological activities such as antioxidant [3,4], antiviral [5], hypolipidemic [6], antidiabetic [7], anti-tumoral [8], antituberculosis [9], antimalarial [10], antibacterial [11], antifungal [12], and anti-inflammatory [13] effects have been reported for biflavonoids.…”
