Low Cost, Tailored Nanocomposites: Properties and Applications

Abstract: Nanostructured materials have a great potential for applications in portable advanced electronic systems. One class of materials, nanocomposites, containing nanoparticles (metal, semiconductors, insulators and ceramics) in a polymer matrix is particularly attractive. Nanocomposites allow coexistence of competing material properties in one material. This results in new functional properties that are unachievable with traditional materials. Novel inorganic-organic and organic-organic nanocomposite materials with… Show more

“…Thus, their use makes it unnecessary to introduce additional boundary atoms which would otherwise lead to additional ambiguities in the unit cells. On the optical side, specific projected applications of Ag/PVDF and other metal/polymer NCs depend on the band structure of the material and include use as sensors for volatile organic compounds, photodetectors, photovoltaic cells, , bandpass filters, waveguides, and (anti)reflective coatings…”
